Jam, Teddy. Night Cars
is wonderful in that it gives the reader insight into what it is that keeps baby’s interest during the night. It is beautifully illustrated with an image of baby on each page to keep continuity. Nice rhyming too – not unlike the way baby begins to learn to speak. It especially resonated with me because I went to Buenos Aires (the city that doesn’t sleep) in the spring and the sounds of the night kept me awake too. I think though, one of the special things about this book is that it is set in the city rather than the sea side, the park, the suburbs, or the farm. It seems to me we don’t often see children’s books set in the city.
